Subtitle: Reality versus Dream: The dream city of Prague

Students will be taught some basics as well as good hints of the program of Photoshop. There will be something important for the beginners, but the advanced get to specialities as well. Than they visit a bibliopegy and will be told about the typography. They will be divided into the groups and they start to invent their own story - in the groups: 1 group - 1 story. The groups are of 2 to 4 people. Or they choose some real dream they had and picture it. They will be asked to draw sketches by hand and to make pictures by camera. Than they will have to finish the book in the 4hour workshop. There will be one book with several chosen stories per each person. Own cover, own fly leaf, own typography. There will be presentation in the last lesson. Many different looking books with the same content. The book will be the reminiscence of the students staying in Prag.
14 Lessons
1. intro: telling the harmonogram of the seminar: what is the point. Showing some examples of what is to be done: František Skála, Josef Váchal and previous works. Ex libris by hand, or other handwriting training. Short joke.
2. History of Photoshop, What is this program good for. Bitmap versus vector. Getting to now the interface. (shortcuts, custom interface) Tools. Resizing, arbitrary rotation, Crop and streighten
3. Selections, geometrical selection hints, antialiasing, magic wand, refining edges, quick mask
4. Visit of the bookmakers. Learning how the book is made.
5. Dividing students into groups according to their knowledge of photoshop. Getting inspiration, reading Prague stories. Talking about what is to be done. Transformations – photomontage in the lecture – mixing faces. Task: Photomontage of the group
6. Paths, Type, Custom brushtip, custom pattern, task: fly leaf
7. working on the legends, drawing (in) the city.

11. InDesign booklet
12. Ready to print adjustments. Printing.
13. Finishing the book at the workshop.

We will be doing something poetic this time - On the first/second lesson we will go to the places in the Downtown with a strong love energy. Inspired by the poets and writers we can search for the sexy ether in the City and create our own fantastic love story - the subject can be anything: a man, a stone, a bird, an unknown nonexisting creature....
Because of the low kapacity of the computer room in Molab we must invent some method of acurating the number of students...

Content of the "graphic design for foreign students" seminar
Subtitle: History versus Imagination: The legends of the city of Prague
Students will be taught some of Prague history in the way of two - three "citywalks". Than they visit a bibliopegy and will be told about the typography. They will be divided into the groups according to their photoshop knowledge and they start to invent their own legend - in the groups: 1 group - 1 legend. The groups are of 2 to 4 people. Or they choose some existing legend and change it. They will be asked to draw something by hand, to make pictures with a camera. They will have than two or three lectures Photoshop according to what they will need to know. (Consultations) Than they are to finish the book in the bibliopegy. There will be one text with all the legends, that everybody makes his or her own book of. Own covering, own character, own typoraphy, everybodys pictures (comics?). There will be prezentation in the last lesson. Many different looking books with the same content. The book will be the reminiscence of the students staying in Prag.
14 Lessons
1. intro: Ex Libris!!! + telling the harmonogram of the seminar: what is the point. Learning the city of Prague with its history and legends, telling some of them. Introducing Prague as a museum of architectural styles. Showing some examples of what is to be done: František Skála, Josef Váchal and some other. Dividing students into groups according to their knowledge of photoshop.
2. Citywalk: Old town - romanesc, gotic, renaissance.... middle ages. How houses,bridges,cathedrals used to be built. About churches. How the goundlevel has risen. Urban system in Middle ages. Number of windows, chimneys. The astronomical clock. The walls. Legends.
3. Citywalk: New town - barock, klasicistic, modern....arcades, Venceslavs square, The dancing house, Prague castle. Czech vesus Germans: National theatre, kubismus against art noveau. The question of improving of the historical city.
4. Visit of the bookmakers. Learning how the book is made.
5. Getting inspiration, reading Prague legends. Talking about what is to be done.
6. Writing the legend in groups. There should be at least one picture per page. (idea: lets do it like a comics...!) Lets do it like an advertisement to a mysterious and in fact non-existing hotel? Legend of a diappearing city: real on photos - changing to sketches. How houses listen what people say: text on the fronts...etc.)
7. working on the legends, drawing (in) the city.
8. drawing in the city, getting material to work with, the story should be finished.
9. and 10. and 11.: photoshop lectures: students should know by this time, what they need to know... there might be some reserve at this time
12. Finishing the text before printing, checking spelling, Picture/text constalation. Printing.
13. Finishing the book at the bookmakers.
14. Final presentation, vernissage, public (loud) reading from the book.
